What Have YOU Done Lately?
Now, thinking about how much of a feat it was to slam 10 years into 7 minutes, Newsweek (where the video was created) did a fairly good job, I think. Granted, there are many international issues missing from the video. In fact there are many Canadian issues that helped shape our country (some for better and some for worse) in this last decade.
Take for instance a change in political leadership. The conservative party, lead by Stephen Harper, won his party control in Ottawa for the first time in almost 13 years, pushing the Liberal party back to a minority opposition. This was mainly due to the fumblings of Prime Minister Paul Martin of the Liberal party, following the Gomery Report and the Sponsorship Scandal. Then there was the excalation of the Israel-Lebanon conflict. Many international guests (some of which I knew) were trapped inside the borders of a country being bombed, with no way of escaping to their homelands.
There were the conflicts in China and Sri Lanka, the rover landing on Mars, and more recently the discovery of water on the moon! Gary Gygax died, having created one of the most controversial fantasy simulators in history. the beginning of the 21st century also witnessed a rise in public condemnation of video games, mostly lead by the ignorant and the selfish, followed by a general acceptance of poor parenting and their lack of proper monitoring. (Was that last one a bit harsh? I think not.) Speaking of video games (and not only because I am a big fan), Modern Warfare 2 opened to almost 4.7 million copies sold in the first 24 hours this year - not only the biggest video game launch in this last decade, but also the largest entertainment launch in history. Speaking about Russia... how about the border skirmishes?
More recently, one must always keep in mind the sudden onset of the H1N1 virus, the worldwide cacaphony it has caused, as well as the extremely controversial vaccine that has been provided.
After watching this, I wonder how many people will lean back and remember where they were and what they were doing on many of those historical moments. Then I wonder how the next 10 years will work itself out?
All I know is that as a brand new clothing company, Mr. Rockets is prepared to boldly face the next 10 years in style!
Keeping track of the other stuff,
-Dan
